You should set around 4 hours of time for your appointment. The Root Canal Procedure should take 1-2 hours depending on the complexity of the procedure, but we also need to account for paperwork, the numbing process, and other root canal appointments. If we are running behind, we will call or text you to inform you of the possibility of an extended wait.
The area of treatment is numbed using local anesthetic delivered via injection. Before starting a procedure, Dr. Bonje checks the tooth for numbness to ensure that the root canal is as painless as possible. If pain/ discomfort is felt during the root canal, anesthetic can be injected directly into the root.
Some soreness is expected after a root canal. If you experience soreness, we recommend taking over-the-counter pain medications such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen. If your soreness persists for 2 or more weeks, please call us to set up a follow up with Dr. Bonje.
We recommend waiting around 2 weeks between root canal therapy and the crowning procedure. That is to ensure that the tooth is healed and no soreness remains, as many dentists check for soreness prior to crowning.
Please bring your referral, a photo ID, and your insurance card(s). We also recommend bringing entertainment material with you as well.
